From April 2019 it became compulsory to have a CO alarm fitted to pass the Boat Safety Examination.
But don’t wait until your next BSS Exam, fit a CO alarm this winter before you go cruising in 2020. CO is the silent killer, first making you sleepy then killing you. Like the couple on the Norfolk Broads who were moored and ran their engine to charge the batteries, the wind blew the fumes into the boat and both died of CO poisoning.
Alarms only cost a few pounds.
