We thought you might like to know that in memory of our founder Barry Jopson, the club have donated £500 shared equally between the RNLI and Humber Rescue – Barry was an avid supporter and raised funds for both during his lifetime.
The donation to RNLI also includes his name actually being displayed on the new E class lifeboat, right beside the crew, making Barry part of every rescue and every life saved.
This is due to be launched in Poole next year and Ann will be invited as a VIP with a friend to attend and witness its launch.
Ann has said that Barry would be absolutely delighted and proud to have his name displayed on the lifeboat.
As a heartfelt thank you for remembering Barry in this special way, the RNLi have created a personalised certificate, so that we all can always be reminded that lives are being saved in Barry’s name.
Our Commodore Lee Bonham presented one of the certificates to Ann at the Torksey Sunday Lunch Cruise event last Sunday and we are retaining the second one to hopefully one day display in pride of place in a future Boat Club clubhouse – something again that Barry was very keen to achieve for the club.
Many thanks indeed to Rod Allen and Aew Allen for suggesting this idea and for organising and sorting it on behalf of Barry and the Boat Club.
